This Smart Gun Lock Can Be Opened in the Dark With Just a Few Clicks
By Timothy Dahl
A gun lock is a good thing. In addition to proper gun safety protocols, it provides an extra level of deterrence in the event your gun falls into the hands of someone who should not have it. The problem with most gun locks and safes, however is that they can be cumbersome to open in the dark or under duress, which is bad news if you're using your firearm for home protection and an intruder is coming. The Zore X smart gun lock aims to solve this problem with an unusual locking mechanism that operates much like a combination lock.
The Zore X fits into your gun's open chamber and can be locked manually with the push of a button. To unlock the Zore X, you spin a dial a required number of clicks in opposing directions, which will release the lock and allow you to chamber a round within seconds. Thanks to the audible clicks, this can be accomplished without looking at your gun, which makes it ideal for dark environments. The Zore X is Bluetooth-enabled and includes a motion sensor so you can be instantly notified on your smartphone if your gun is moved or there are any attempts to unlock it.
Another product from Zore is the Watchdog, which is available as a standalone motion sensor. It doesn't include a lock but will work with the app to notify you of any movement.
The Zore X was invented by former members of the Israel Defense Forces, who have combat and technology backgrounds. They've launched this product on IndieGoGo and have raised more than $300,000 to start production. Expected ship date is February 2017.
