Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee took to the twittersphere Saturday to roast San Francisco 49er backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the wake longtime Cuban dictator Fidel Castro's death.

Kaepernick made headlines earlier this week for an exchange he had with a member of the media during a press conference preceding this week's NFL matchup between the 49ers and the Miami Dolphins.

A Cuban-born sports writer for the Miami Herald challenged Kaepernick over a shirt he wore earlier this year, which depicted a meeting between Malcolm X and Castro. Kaepernick said the shirt was merely worn to support Malcolm X, but after being pressed further by the journalist, Kaepernick eventually offered up some praise to Castro for Cuba's high literacy rate.

Afterward, Kaepernick was roasted by the internet for his Castro praises, and once news broke that Castro had died, the internet didn't stop. That's when Huckabee used the opportunity to roast Kaepernick.

"Castro dead;C Kaepernick weeps for his idol; wipes tears w/ US flag; stands at attention with hand over heart for Castro. I'll take a knee," the former Arkansas governor wrote on Twitter early Saturday.

Not only did Huckabee roast him for his Castro praises, but he also went after the quarterback for his national anthem protests, which began in August.

However, Saturday's tweet wasn't the first time Huckabee lashed out at Kaepernick. When the protests were leading national headlines in late August, Huckabee labeled Kaepernick an "arrogant fool."

Still Huckabee wasn't the only political pundit to draw connections between Kaepernick and Castro on Saturday. Fox News contributor - and the man who killed Osama bin Laden - Robert O'Neill tweeted Saturday that he hopes Kaepernick is "OK" upon hearing the news of Castro's death.
