Chicago: Toughest Gun Laws In U.S. Sees 55 Shot - 12 Dead

If gun control is so effective, why is that the city with the toughest gun laws in America has been turned into a virtual war zone over the Christmas holidays with a total of 55 people shot and a dozen fatalities?
The problem would seem to be obvious. While law-abiding people may abide by restrictive gun laws, leaving themselves defenseless, criminals don’t. That’s why they are criminals. Law means nothing to them. That, of course, leads to the death toll in Chicago as the criminal element, including gangbangers, were busy killing themselves and innocent bystanders. However, the murder rate really spiked between Friday at 4:50 PM with the killing marathon continuing until Monday at about 4:50 PM.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that of those not killed on the spot, more than a dozen of the victims were in serious or critical condition. Of course, this means that the sweepstakes total for Chicago could yet rise.
"We had a reprehensible amount of shootings and murders,'' a furious Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson said.
A number of the shootings were "deliberate and planned shootings by one gang against another.
"They were targeted knowing fully well that individuals would be at the homes of family and friends celebrating the holidays. This was followed by several acts of retaliation."
Superintendent Johnson said he would like to see gun-toting gangsters get more hard time. The one problem, of course, is in a city run by liberals, the judges are often liberal and pass out soft sentences. Johnson called on legislators to "give judges the autonomy to sentence repeat gun offenders to the upper end of the gun-sentencing range." However, liberal judges are not predisposed to hand out those types of sentences and the chances of stiffer penalties coming out of the leftist Illinois legislature are, at best, not good.
Eight of the Chicago shootings claimed multiple victims and most were in neighborhoods where historically gang conflicts are a part of neighborhood life, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department.
Sadly, gun-play in just two neighborhoods, East Chatham and Austin, left a total of seven dead and two wounded. Apparently, Chicago PD uses an algorithm to identify possible trouble spots and according to Guglielmi, “Ninety percent of those fatally wounded had gang affiliations, criminal histories, and were preidentified.’’ So far this year, the Second City has seen more than 4,000 people shot with more than 700 fatalities.
Guglielmi said, “While we have promising leads, this unacceptable level of gun violence demonstrates the clear and present need for policymakers to . . . give Chicago the gun-sentencing tools against repeat offenders.’’
Again, that is not likely. But maybe they can pass a few more gun law to make it illegal to even think about a gun … the realty … so much for the strictest gun control laws in America.Gun Control, Chicago, Mayor, Violence, Christmas, Rahm Emmanuel, Killings
