Elijah Cummings says Donald Trump made up story about him

The often veracity challenged and bombastic Rep Elijah Cummings accused President Donald Trump on Thursday of fabricating a story about his ducking a meeting at the White House saying he is still looking forward to meeting with the president.
However, Mr. Trump said at a press conference on Thursday that Cummings had agreed to a meeting with the president but that the Maryland Democrats office was not responding to White House Phone calls. Trump speculated that perhaps Mr. Cummings had been way-laid by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer or “somebody like that, some other lightweight.”
Mr. Cummings who did indeed duck the meeting said, "I have no idea why President Trump would make up a story about me like he did today. Of course, Senator Schumer never told me to skip a meeting with the president."
While in full-blown denial that Chuck Schumer told him what he could and could not do, Mr. Cummings did not deny avoiding a meeting with Mr. Trump. One could almost hear him wanting to say, “Is that what I was supposed to say Chuck?”
Mr. Cummings did say, trying to regain credibility, that he still wanted to meet with the president to discuss plans for the Department of Health and Human Services and their plan to use leverage to lower prescription drug prices.
Mr. Trump insisted that the congressman's office refused to set up the meeting.
"I actually thought I had a meeting with Congressman Cummings and he was all excited. And then he said, well, I can't move, it might be bad for me politically. I can't have that meeting," Mr. Trump said when asked about meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus.
"I was all set to have the meeting. You know, we called him and called him. And he was all set. I spoke to him on the phone, very nice guy," the president said.
Mr. Cummings, who is an influential member of the far left Congressional Black Caucus, said he didn't know why Mr. Trump mentioned his name when asked about the group.
"I also sincerely have no idea why the president made this claim in response to an unrelated question about the Congressional Black Caucus," he said. "I am sure members of the CBC can answer these questions for themselves."
Mr. Cummings failed to say is that he served as chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2003 to 2005 and is still considered one of the decision makers in the group. Cummings is known for his race baiting and his uber-left political positions.
