It takes a village to take your child away

It was almost four years ago today that former MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry said "Kids belong to whole communities. Once it's everybody's responsibility and not just the household's, then we start making better investments."

Today on "Pure Opelka", Mike Opelka lamented gravely that this sentiment is now policy, both here and in Canada. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that foster parents Derek and Frances Baars have filed a complaint against the Children's Aid Society for removing children from their home.

Why? Because, as members of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, they refused to tell the children about the Easter Bunny, as belief in such concepts is forbidden in their faith.

"Can people be good foster parents even though they refuse to say the Easter Bunny is real?" Mike asked facetiously. "Good foster homes are in such short supply."

Mike wondered how college professor and parent Harris-Perry might feel if her kids were being taken away from her because of something she said or believed, or if she preferred a doctor diagnose her child rather than a school. Yesterday TheBlaze reported on the plight of the Maple family, whom Child Protective Services visited because they did not immediately take their child for a mental health concept on recommendation of his school.

State "parenting," a laughable concept not a long time ago, is becoming pervasive.
